Social and Cocktail says:

The Resolution Martini is a sweet and fruity cocktail with a nice and pleasing sour edge. Although termed one, the cocktail is not a martini in the strictest sense. This has become a trend over the last few decades in which drinks are named after the cocktail martini glass that they are served in, rather than having anything in common with the classic gin/vodka and vermouth combination.

The drink was originally created as a cocktail to toast in the New Year, hence the name, and as a party cocktail it works fine, plus it has a nice gold coloured hue to give it a touch of class. The balance of the drink is also pretty decent, with the gin bringing the dryness, the apricot brandy adding the sweet and the lemon juice tying everything together with its bitter, sour edge. Also, as it’s a very basic cocktail it is perfect for novice bartenders who want to get into cocktail making.

When making the Resolution Martini it is strongly recommended to use fresh lemon tastes as opposed to the bottle variety. Firstly, fresh fruit juice always tastes better and secondly the additional sugar found in bottle varieties can damage the balance of the drink. We also recommend you use a good quality gin, such as Caorunn or Tanqueray to help bring out the true potential of this cocktail.
