On a sunny evening on 21st April, Social and Cocktail Events made their way to the Cathkin Care Home in East Kilbride to serve the residents delicious cocktail and mocktails as part of their Community Cocktails initiative.

Our cocktail bartender, Callum, set up the mobile cocktail bar in the lounge area and about 15 residents and 3 care home staff all arrived early to give us a warm welcome and everyone was excited about the cocktail menu which was handed out. The menu included some cocktail classics such as the brandy alexander and the old-fashioned plus there was also a range of delicious mocktails, including the Shirley Temple and the Blueberry Mojito, which is a non-alcoholic twist on the classic mojito, featuring fresh blueberry juice, sugar syrup, lime juice, mint and a handful of fresh blueberries.

The cocktails and mocktails all proved a big hit with the residents, with the sweet and fruity strawberry daiquiri proving a big hit with the ladies and the whiskey based Old Fashioned proving a big hit with the gentlemen. The residents were interested to watch Callum demonstrate how each cocktail was made and were delighted to hear about in the origins of each cocktail, some of which dated back to over 100 years ago.

Care home manager Maureen was delighted with the event “It’s great to see the residents experience some of these great cocktails and they were all fascinated by how each cocktail was made, demonstrated by the Social and Cocktail bartender. We would love to do this type of event more often and hopefully the guys would be so kind to come back again in the summer”.
