The Brandy Alexander cocktail is a sweet, brandy-based cocktail, which consists of brandy and crème de cacao and became very popular during the early 20th century. The Brandy Alexander is actually a variation of an earlier gin-based dessert cocktail, called an Alexander and is ideal for cold winter afternoons or served as an after dinner drink. The Brandy Alexander is known to pair particularly well with chocolate desserts such as Tiramisu or a chocolate panna cotta.

The origins of the Brandy Alexander cocktail has been strongly debated. One popular story is that it was invented in London in 1922 to celebrate the wedding of Princess Mary and Viscount Lascelles. Alexander Woolcott, who was a well-known drama critic and member of the Algonquin Round Table claimed it was named after him. Another popular story was that it was named after the legendary Russian tsar, Alexander II
