Father’s Day is almost upon us – and don’t leave it too late like last year. You might be able to hastily cobble together a bunch of drooping flowers and a framed photo of your grinning face as a last minute present on Mother’s Day, but dads might not be so easily swayed. What you really want is something amber, smooth, and that you can share (naturally!). So when Sunday June 21st rolls around, make sure you have one of these fine whiskies to show you care.

glenlivetThe Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve

Get personal this Father’s Day by treating your dad to a single malt that draws on almost 200 years of heritage – and create your own unique bottle label that will make it a keepsake long after the whisky has been finished. And we’re guessing that it won’t take long for the bottle to be emptied, since the more-ish flavours of toffee apple, orange and pear drops make for an utterly drinkable dram. The new Founders Reserve whisky balances these flavours exceptionally, with creaminess and citrus sweetness characteristics made possible with the use of First Fill American oak casks. So raise a glass and say #CheersDad with The Glenlivet’s new expression!

glen-scotia-1992Glen Scotia 1991

Connoisseurs of whisky will appreciate the name of Glen Scotia – one of just three distilleries in Campbeltown and the only one actively releasing single malt. This quality Scotch was set aside to mature in hogshead #1079 and was eventually bottled at 23 years old by Signatory in July 2014. It’s rather exclusive, since only 375 bottles were produced, and has a light nose of cereals, citrus, spices and iodine. The taste incorporates spiced notes with a slightly salty and herbal finish, and has a complexity that is testament to its fine age.

Want a way to show you’re the most thoughtful of offspring while also getting an opportunity to spend more quality time with dad? We have the ideal gift. Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel is one seriously impressive tipple – only one of 100 barrels is selected by the Jack Daniel’s Master Tasting Panel to mature in the highest reaches of its barrelhouses. The dramatic change in temperature results in a truly unique drink – rich and robust in flavour, with notes of toasted oak, vanilla and caramel. So what about the quality time? Well, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel is also offering complimentary tickets to in-store masterclasses this July, so you and your dad can explore the craft of American whiskey together in a bit of boozy bonding time. And you can also engrave the bottle with a personal message, making the gift that extra bit more thoughtful.

If you can’t treat your old pops on Father’s Day, when can you? And with this incredible Japanese malt whisky, crowned World’s Best Blended Malt Whisky at the 2010 World Whiskies Awards, then you are sure to create quite a stir. It has been matured for 21 years, which gives it a deep, flavourful richness that is completely unique and rather fabulous. The nose blends the splendour of ripe fruit with the elegance of the aged cask, and the taste offers chocolate, coffee, black pepper, loads of tangy sherry, hints of turmeric and other spices. It may be pricey, but trust us when we say this is one tipple that will thrill any whisky lover.
