We all like a Guinness on St. Patrick’s Day, but what about if you’re looking for a cocktail that’s a bit more sophisticated?

Shamrock Shaker

A smooth and creamy mix of coffee, almond liquers and milk that looks just the part with green and gold dusting.

  • 1 1/2 oz Kahlua
  • 2 1/2 oz milk
  • 1/2 oz Amaretto
  • edible green and gold powder for garnish (found at cake-decorating supply stores)

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Sprinkle the green and gold powders on the top.

Shamrock Smoothie

This fruity option makes a green Margarita-style cocktail using a melon-flavoured vodka.

  • 2 oz SKYY Melon
  • 1/2 oz triple sec
  • Splash of orange curaçao
  • juice of 2 limes

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes and shake until frothy. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

You can either:

  • Blend with 3/4 cup ice in a blender and serve in a margarita glass.
  • Rim the glass with salt.

Irish Flag (shooter)

A layered shot showing the colours of the Irish flag that doesn’t taste the best but looks the part!

  • 1 part green crème de menthe
  • 1 part Irish cream liqueur
  • 1 part Grand Marnier or Brandy

Float the liqueurs on top of one another . Pour the crème de menthe first into a shot glass. Float the Irish cream liqueur over the back of a barspoon on top of the crème de menthe. Then float the Grand Marnier on top of the Irish cream liqueur, again using the bar spoon.

Nutty Irishman (shooter)

This shot is a smooth mix of Irish cream and hazelnutty Frangelico. Feel free to up the measure to 1 ounce each and pour on the rocks.

  • 3/4 oz Irish cream liqueur
  • 3/4 oz Frangelico

Pour equal amounts of the two liqueurs into a shot glass.

Shamrocked Shooter

Light, sweet, smooth and very green! It’s the perfect cocktail for St. Patrick’s Day.

  • 2 oz Midori melon liqueur
  • 1/2 oz Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey
  • 1/2 oz Carolan’s Irish cream liqueur

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and shake very well. Strain into a shot glass.

Irish Coffee

A real Irish fan favourite mixes Irish whiskey with hot black coffee. Use a good whiskey, and even add some whipped cream to make it even more exciting!

  • 2 1/2 oz strong, hot coffee
  • 1 1/2 oz Irish whiskey
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 oz whipping cream

Pour the coffee, Irish whiskey and brown sugar into an coffee glass or mug and stir well. Float the cream on top.
