Social and Cocktail says:

Spanish Coffee creates a delightful mixture of deep flavours ~ which is perfect for the winter months. To get the most out of this hot mixed drink, we recommend using a quality brandy such as Remy Martin or Courvoisier and for the coffee liqueur you will never go far wrong with Kahlua, which is a coffee flavoured, rum-based liqueur from Mexico.

The Spanish Coffee is one of many variations of the Irish Coffee recipe, which features Irish Whiskey, hot coffee, sugar and cream, however, many Spanish people would argue that their creation actually came first!
