Crown Royal Whiskey

Crown Royal Whiskey is a blended Canadian whiskey, 40% alcohol by proof. Crown Royal whiskey is one of the best-selling whiskeys in the United States and is used to make the Royal Widow and Royal Manhattan cocktails. Drinkers of Crown Royal whiskey are known to be exceptionally loyal to their brand.

Crown Royal whiskey is a medium bodied whiskey with favours of caramel, vanilla and brown sugar on the palate. The whiskey can be enjoyed on its own but is also light enough to be used in mixed drinks. Crown Royal Whiskey is most popularly mixed with ginger ale or cola. A recent trend is to mix Crown Royal with Red Bull, with the resulting elixir referred to as a Larry Bomb. However, still the most generally accepted way to drink Crown Royal whiskey is on the rocks

Crown Royal Whiskey was originally created to mark a visit to Canada in 1939 by the reigning British monarch King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth. The drink was introduced by Samuel Bronfman, who was president of the multi-national drinks company Seagrams. The drink was kept exclusive to Canada up until 1964, after which it began exporting to the USA and Europe.

There are a variety of Crown Royal whiskies available other than the original. Crown Royal Maple Finished was laiunched in 2012 and is a satisfying blend of Crown Royal with maple flavour. In 2014 Crown Royal XO was launched and is a blend of 50 whiskies that is then finished in Cognac casks from the French Limousin Forest.
