Crown Royal whiskey is a medium bodied whiskey with favours of caramel, vanilla and brown sugar on the palate. Crown Royal Whiskey was originally created to mark a visit to Canada in 1939 by the reigning British monarch King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth. The drink was introduced by Samuel Bronfman, who was president of the multi-national drinks company Seagrams. The drink was kept exclusive to Canada up until 1964, after which it began exporting to the USA and Europe.
There are a variety of Crown Royal whiskies available other than the original. Crown Royal Maple Finished was laiunched in 2012 and is a satisfying blend of Crown Royal with maple flavour. In 2014 Crown Royal XO was launched and is a blend of 50 whiskies that is then finished in Cognac casks from the French Limousin Forest.
