Tanqueray Gin Martini November

Last time I went to November in Princes Square, Glasgow, it felt like a cold and stark bar within a shopping centre. It has been transformed since then with soft pastels, black and white cityscapes, mood lighting and comfortable stylish furnishing which make it welcoming and attractive. The music was suitably in the background and quite an eclectic mix of Daft Punk, Depeche Mode and The Killers among others.

But what did the cocktail menu look like? Pretty inviting, mostly classics with some in house inventions. Divided into different eras you can get a Cosmopolitan or Margarita from the ‘free love’ 60s-80s, a sophisticated Manhattan or Mojito from the 20s-50s or go for an indulgent prosecco cocktail. So overall first impressions were good.

Bang went the mojito

Now there are several major errors a cocktail bar can make in my opinion. One of them is definitely running out of mint by 7pm, even on a Tuesday. Bang went my mojito. Now what? Ok, let’s go classic with a Tanqueray Gin Martini. And my marathon training sister visited the Mocktails section and went for a Cinderella: Orange juice, Apple juice, Lime and Berry syrup.

The martini was quite heavy on the gin with the vermouth slightly posted missing. There was a saltiness to the olives which may have been brine? Overall it was drinkable but at £6.50 nothing to write home about. Probably not the best alternative to my original sweet, minty choice. The Cinderella was exactly what a non-alcoholic cocktail should be, fruity and refreshing. It was kind of like a glass of coconut liquorice allsorts.

The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed. I’d definitely go back for a drink, especially if shopping in Princes Square but would probably stick to a beer in future.
