El Diablo

The Ingredients

37 1/2 ml Tequila, 12 1/2 ml Crème de Cassis, 12 1/2 ml Lime Juice, Ginger Beer

How To make a El Diablo

Pour the tequila, cassis, and lime juice into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake well. Strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Top with ginger beer.

Social and Cocktail says:

A popular tequila cocktail with the cassis melding perfectly with the ginger and the agave flavour of the tequila. This has long been a favourite cocktail of ours and looks great due to the way the cassis dissolves into the drink, creating a purple haze.

The earliest reference to the El Diablo cocktail can be found in the Cocktail Recipe books of Tiki legend Trader Vic. In his 1946 “Book of Food and Drink” it is referred to as a “Mexican El Diablo” but whether it was an original Trader Vic cocktail or not remains unclear.
