Skinny cocktails to brighten up fun-stricken January

Following on from our previous post Cocktails – A Dieters Friend or Foe? we present some skinny cocktails from cocktail bars around the country.These bars, the Mansion House in Glasgow and The Last and Jewel, both in London, have crafted several ‘skinny’ cocktails, where they have managed to keep calories low by replacing sugars with agave syrup and natural fruit purees. A simple, yet effective trend that we believe we’ll be seeing more of in 2014.

Here are 3 of our favourite:

Fresh Start cocktailFresh Start

available at Mansion House, Glasgow

25ml Ketel One Vodka

10ml lime juice

50ml passion fruit puree

15ml agave nectar

Half a passion fruit to serve

 

Fill tall glass with ice cubes. Shake all the ingredients together in a cocktail shaker, pour over ice. Serve with half a passion fruit placed on top.

Berri Acai SourBerry Acai Sour

available at The Last, Chancery lane, London

50m Absolut Vodka

25ml agave syrup

4 pieces pineapple

10ml lime juice

Blueberries and pineapple leaf to serve

Muddle pineapple and agave in a high ball glass. Add vodka and shake in a cocktail shaker with ice and strain into a high-ball glass. Serve with blueberries and a pineapple leaf.

G&TeaG&Tea

available at Jewel, Piccadilly, London

25ml Beefeater Gin

25ml Extra Dry Martini

100ml Green Tea Concentrate

25ml agave syrup

Lemon wedge and tea bag to serve

 

To make green tea concentrate, cold brew 2 green tea bags in a litre of water for 1 hour. To make the cocktail, place all the ingredients in a glass mug with ice and stir. Serve with lemon wedge and tea bag.
