Nightjar Bar in East London, which was recently voted Number 3 Best Bar in the World at the Drinks International Top 50 Awards, has found itself under police investigation due to its “Moby Dick” cocktail. The recipe for the cocktail pertains to include a “whale skin infusion” which, if true, would contravene strict EU protection policies where whale is strictly banned for sales across Europe. Police raided the premises last Monday 3rd December and removed samples for forensic analysis.

Nightjar Bar in Hoxton has quickly became one of the most popular bar venues in London, achieved through a combination of attractive decor, carefully selected live music and innovative cocktails, with names like the Bees Knees, Advance London Sour and Jersey Devil. The actual ingredients of the controversial “Moby Dick” cocktail are: Scotch Whiskey, Galliano, Whaleskin Infusion, English Ale and Lemon Bitters. Our understanding is that nobody at Nightjar`s management knew that the drink may have contained an illegal ingredient until the raid took place.
